Palak Agarwal | I compiled all my poems and musings and decided to get them published

My journey so far I started writing poetry during my schooldays. I have always been an avid reader. I remember my fiction novels being taken away from me before examinations. While my friends and cousins would save up to buy a new dress or some candy, I remember saving all my gift money and spending it on a book, I wanted to add to my collection.”

Hola! I am a published author of the anthology of poems – ‘Inside A kaleidoscope’. I always wanted to be a criminal journalist or reporter. However, hailing from a finance background, my creative side took a backseat. I had picked up the hobby of writing poetry during my schooldays. I have always been an avid reader. I remember my fiction novels being taken away from me before examinations. While my friends and cousins would save up to buy a new dress or some candy, I remember saving all my gift money and spending it on a book, I wanted to add to my
collection. Post-school, life took a U-turn in terms of career choices and I joined the herd to get a degree. As elders would say, I would be set for life.
After changing various jobs, I finally gave up on very good roles to pursue my passion for writing. One fine day, I compiled all my poems and musings and decided to get them published. This news came as a surprise to all my
friends and family as they could not comprehend why an MBA in Marketing would suddenly decide to publish her own book instead. Just one word – ‘Author’ was all it took to bring a smile on my face. Over the years, I continued to write and share my proses with everyone. Little did I know that the word Writer against my name was here to stay. Being a writer is no easy task. We are rejected at every point. We have to draft, then go back and edit, proofread our own work and then check for plagiarism only to realize that another writer had very similar thoughts while writing
their piece. My family initially did not think that it was a good idea for me to choose writing as a career. I call myself a communicator, not just a writer. Words are the paintings of the soul. I always encourage people to write and not worry about what others will think or say. We all have a creative gene hidden inside us. We just need to explore it. Balancing family and work life at the same time can be stressful for women. There were times I would not find the time or zest to write. I would even struggle sometimes to find time to read a book. Thankfully, my husband has always pushed me to pursue my passion for writing.
Lastly, I would just say, give your words wings to fly! Every woman deserves to be heard. Every voice raised for women empowerment should be given a platform. We are in this together, therefore; let us lift each other through the magic of words.
