Do you want to know what is a Thoran? Thoran is a vegetable dish in Kerala. This common dish is mostly coconut-based. This is usually eaten with steamed rice.
Ingredients
- Chopped Cabbage – Half of one medium-sized cabbage
- Chopped Carrots – 3 big ones
- Chopped Onion – 1/2 cup
- Grated Coconut – 1 Cup
- Chopped Garlic – 4 small
- Chopped Green Chillies – 2
- Turmeric – 1/4 tsp
- Salt – As Required
- Coconut Oil – 2 tbsp
- Mustard Seeds – 1/2 tsp
- Curry Leaves – A sprig

Combine the cabbage and carrots with some salt. Heat 2 tbsp oil in a non-stick pan and splutter mustard seeds. Add chopped onion, garlic and curry leaves and turmeric powder saute for a few minutes. Add the chopped cabbage and carrot. Saute for 2 minutes. Next, add the grated coconut and combine everything together. Cover the pan and cook on low flame, stirring occasionally. Do not add water while cooking. Let it cook for 5 – 8 minutes and your dish will be prepared ready to be served with rice, roti, parathas or even any kinds of pieces of bread.
